A Student Nursing Aide in our facility may be responsible for a variety of job duties. These responsibilities can vary based on the needs of the healthcare team, patient demographics, and immediate patient requirements.

Roles and Responsibilities of a Student Nursing Aide

Under the direction, supervision, and delegation of the Licensed Nurse, the assistant may be assigned to perform specific nursing responsibilities:

    1. Measuring important indicators, glucose levels, and oxygen saturation
    2. Aiding residents with their meal intake
    3. According to NHS, the sole permissible form of dressing alteration is through basic bandaging (wet-dry or sterile dressing changes are not allowed)
    4. Step-by-Step Guide to Ostomy Maintenance, Including Wafer Board Application
    5. For individuals in need of assistance with mobility, restorative care regimens that incorporate the use of gait belts, walkers, crutches, or wheelchairs can facilitate their return to previously enjoyed activities and hobbies
    6. Active and passive ROM exercises and contracture care are essential components of restorative care, allowing patients to recover more efficiently and maintain their mobility and quality of life
    7. Peripheral venous phlebotomy is a widely accepted method for obtaining blood samples for laboratory testing
    8. Oxygen is supplied through a small, plastic tube that is inserted into the nostrils, which delivers oxygen to the lungs in a controlled manner
    9. Racemic epinephrine administration will not be involved in the process of starting or stopping nebulizer treatments for residents, especially those with COVID-19.
    10. Performing routine screening tests/immunizations (such as flu and TB) has become a crucial component of preventative medicine.
    11. Comprehensive documentation of all procedures and medications given to patients in the facility is necessary and must be recorded in both electronic and paper format, as instructed by the licensed nurse.
